Somebody grabbed his toes today. He's getting so strong. I love this stage because it seems like every day they are making leaps and bounds in what they can do. He may be big, but he's no blob.

Don't you just LOVE that spot behind his knee where the rolls are? mmmmmmm
Trust me, they are as yummy as they look.

Random pictorials

Sometimes Michael is just so soft and squishy when he falls asleep that I hate to put him down. I wub him.

Our three kiddos. What a good lookin' crew!
Penny likes to play in the crib with Michael sometimes. She enjoys the 49ers mobile as much as Michael does (HE LOVES THIS THING).
Penny has not lost her mommy touch. She loves to hold Michael. Yesterday, I caught her "checking" to see if he had a poopy diaper. She loves to burp him. A few days ago she and Michael were taking a bath and she was kissing and mugging on him and said in a voice you use only when talking to a baby, "we're so glad you're in our family Michael. We're so glad." Moments like those just melt my heart, because we are so glad and thankful for this little (BIG) blessing....and she knows it too. Michael makes her just as happy as he makes me.

There have been a few times in the car where Michael will be fussing and then suddenly stops. At first I used to ask, "did he fall asleep?" I know better. Now I ask, "Penny, is he sucking on your finger?" She knows just how to soothe

Whats happening to my tomato plants??

So, I was excited to have tomatoes this year after my sad, sad attempt last year. I have gotten quite a few but not as many as I should have due to our weird weather this summer (unusually cold which was nice actually). A few days ago I noticed that all my leaves were gone from the top of my plant when I went to water it. I thought an animal must have finally found our plants and decided to snack at night.....but it would have to be a deer....which I found odd since we're not up against a greenbelt at all.

Look at my sad, sad tomato plants. I was inspecting the nibbles tonight when I spotted my problem. Do you see them?

Two big fat caterpillars.
I decided since its the end of the full blown tomato season anyways, I'm going to let them eat my 3 plants. A caterpillar/butterfly is so much more interesting than a tomato anyways. I can't wait to see if they make a cocoon.

I wanted Dominic to pretend he was eating the caterpillar. He said, "no way!" He was a little grossed out by them and timid to touch them, but HE DID touch them. Penny touched one too, but it took a little coaxing.
Isn't he cool? I was surprised by how big they are! I just didn't know. =)
Am I lame that I'm disappointed that this caterpillar is most likely just....*sigh* a moth? I was hoping for a beautiful butterfly like the book I've been reading since I was an eency weency woo woo.

Crazy Hair Day

It it Red Ribbon Week (Drug Free Thats Me)
Today was crazy hair day.

Dominic opted for black crazy hair (the black we'll get to use again for his Halloween costume. Dominic wants to be a vampire. Edward maybe? j/k)

I couldn't get him to make a normal face...but it WAAAAAAAAAS crazy hair day.

All Things Michael

Michael turned 4 months old on the 19th!!
At his appointment they said everything looked great. He weighs 18.6 pounds (95th percentile) and was off the charts for his height and head circumference (Penny's head was off the charts too...we make oblong heads which does't look good on paper). He wears 9-12 month clothes. He's rolling over from back to front and making raspberries. He talks and smiles and laughs. He can hold a toy and swat at things that hang above him. He wakes up happy. Michael LOVES bathtime and enjoys kicking his legs and turning his head to lick the water.
The other day I was working on things and came around the corner to find this:
I guess Penny was worried that if Michael ever got lost that she wanted to make sure that he got returned as well.

Other news: Michael is officially eating solids once a day. He's just not satisfied with how much milk he gets and sometimes seems starved by 4pm (again, why I was feeding him a bottle a day at around that time). Once he turned 4 months, I then started feeding him rice cereal. A few days later he downed a whole container of squash and a few days later he downed a whole container of mixed vegetables. Go get em Michael.

NONE of my other 2 kids have liked baby foods. Michael just doesn't seem to care what goes in his stomach as long as its food. He's just like his mama!
Yum Yum!
While we were at Jon's, their baby had her exersaucer out and Michael LOVED it. So when we got home I got ours out of the attic (thanks Liz!) and washed it off and plopped him in it. He was in heaven. He loves that he can be up and playing and squeals and slobbers for hours.
I found a kitty, but has anybody seen Michael? Penny loved this.
I know its not in focus, but I love his arms, hands and LIPS in this picture. He loves to munch on blankets, washcloths or CLEAN burp rags (actually, he doesn't care about the clean part, but I DO!)

San Diego Zoo

Over Labor Day weekend we went to the San Diego Zoo. We didn't get to the zoo till around 2 or so and THANK GOODNESS, because it was hot, hot, HOT. But only for a few hours...then the night air cooled it down quickly. Had we been there right at opening, we would have been facing the heat for hours on end.

Here we are at the beginning of our day on the bus tour. They stamped the word BUS on our arms. To our surprise, Penny sounded the word out: "bbbbb, uuuuu, ssssssssss, BUS!" I didn't even know she knew how to do that.
I love the glasses in this picture, but also her hair sticking out. It makes me smile.
Why, hello Carl.
Penny was very interested in the snakes.
Dominic and Penny looked for turtles and minnows in this exhibit.

There were some fake turtles in the exhibit, and so we were trying to figure out which ones were real and which were fake. Unless they moved, it was kinda hard to tell. Do you like my hat I bought at the zoo? I actually LOVE it, it totally shades my face and doesn't hurt my head.
These elephants had so many wrinkles. I wonder the story all those wrinkles tell. This one had huge tusks.

He was glad I told him to wear his tennis shoes (he fought me, he wanted to wear his sandals). Mama's know what they are talking about, don't they?
Dominic, Penny, and Brody riding some saber toothed tiger or something. We didn't get too many pictures of Brody because he was always on the go, go go! They would have all been blurry.
Dominic and Brody playing on the elephant.
One of the many times Brody ran away from Dusty (Sean's brother). Two seconds before this, both Brody's arms were in the air while he typical of a 2 year old. We had a good laugh.

We got to see the polar bear move his head around. *yawn* j/k. I've seen many polar bears in the wild....they are much more exciting outside the zoo.

These silver polar bears were kinda cool looking.
Dominic; King of the Polar Bears!
Riding Daddy's shoulders for a bit, she was quite the trooper and ran and ran and ran.
Proof that Michael came with us. I think these were monkeys or something.
The hippo made laps around the pool underwater. At one point, he came up and opened his mouth really wide. That was pretty neat.
The tigers were asleep too.
We walked all over the zoo looking for a specific restaurant and when we found it, we discovered it was closed. Boo. So, we packed up and left the zoo. We found this restaurant by our hotel. This was the face Dominic made when I told him the name of the restaurant; Ricky's.
Penny colored while we waited for food. She was quite loopy by this time.
Michael was an angel until the food came out, then he wanted to be swaddled and held so he could fall asleep. I watched my burger get cold while he drifted off to sleep. It was still good though.
Sean and I both discussed Zoo's after we left. Come to find out, neither of us really care for them all that much. Whats all the hubbub? A bunch of animals in cages mostly sleeping that you get to walk by and wave at. It was fun, but I have no desire to go again.

More playing with cousins

Seriously, these kiddos had lots of fun playing together.

They got completely engulfed in the princess costumes and the kitchen. What a mess they made!
She's completely in her element here.
Nice Owen, nice. Are you cold?

So-Cal Visit

Let me start off by saying how many times I typed Dominic's name instead of Michael in this post.............what is wrong with me?!!! =) I think I fixed them all.

We went to Southern California for Labor Day Weekend. Sean's brother lives in the San Diego Area and I have 2 brothers and a sister in the Mission Viejo area. It was a really fast, but fun visit. We wish we could have stayed for a few more days, but and school were waiting for us back home.

On the way down we had to pull off for a potty break on an exit off the freeway (sometimes there are bathrooms and sometimes its good 'ol mother nature!). Dominic has ALWAYS been one to pick me flowers. He picked this sunflower for me. It was also the first time he's ever seen a bee with pollen on its legs, so we got to talk about the pollen and where they get it and what they do with it. Nothing like a teaching moment on your potty break.
Happy Cows do NOT come from California. Don't buy into the commercials. They are still overcrowded and stinky. This is the worst part of the drive. Thank goodness for the washcloths.

When we got to Dusty's house (Sean's brother) there were LOTS OF BABIES. Brody was almost 2 and then the twins are 4 days younger than Michael. There was so much chaos going on that we never got a picture of all the kiddos in one place. But we did get some of all the kiddos:
Here is Sean holding and feeding Jack.
Me holding Michael (my hair was especially nice that day, I don't know what I did to it. Ever have those days?)
Penny and Brody. Dominic had Brody so riled up that he and Penny really couldn't play because he was just too excited and intense. It was really funny though. Right after this picture I wanted one of them hugging.....which turned into Brody tackling Penny. Couldn't help but laugh.

Brody chasing Dominic. They had a lot of fun. I guess Brody woke up the next morning and the first things out of his mouth were, "Where's Dominic?"
Penny running Abbie to Grandma's house (its a game we play; pump their legs like they are running and say, "run, run, run to Grandma's house")
Penny and Jack
Michael in their swing-ish type seat. The ears were super cute on it.
Michael discovered the exersaucer while at my Brother's house. This is JUST like the one we had when Penny was a baby.
Jon made this slide in his back yard. The kids were all over it! Sayler, Owen and Penny had a blast playing together. Sayler has a trundle bed and was all kinds of excited to have Penny SLEEPOVER. Owen had Dominic sleep in his room too. It was lots of fun to see Jon's kids, its been almost 2 years since we've seen them last.
My brother Nephi was showing Sayler and Penny all the new apps on his phone. J/K, I think he was showing them how to record videos and then they would watch them. Everybody likes Nephi.
I have smore on my face? Where?
My brother Jon got a drum set for Christmas a few years back. The boys had a blast with it.
Penny thought she would try out the toys too.
Funny faces with Dad.

Penny's head kept falling over on the way home so I jerry-rigged it so that it wouldn't flop forward. Yes, thats my swimsuit. Whatever works right?
I wish I could share ALL the pictures. Dominic stayed over at my sister Julia's house one night so that he could spend some time with his boy cousins there. They had A BLAST. I don't have any pictures of any of that (because I was at my brothers house). We also went swimming but our hands are always full at the swimming pool anymore and we didn't get any pictures there. Miss Callie is so super cute too. She's one month older than Michael and they are about the same size!

We had lots of fun with our family this weekend. Lets do it again soon!
